Pocket Gophers or moles?

In Orlando Apopka Windermere Altamonte Springs pocket gophers and moles wreak havoc on our beautiful lawns. Now what is the difference in moles and pocket gophers? The main difference between the two is Moles will have tunnels right under the ground, and pocket gophers are deeper in the ground leaving behind huge piles of dirt.

Moles eat primarily worms and grubs living their life right under the soils surface leaving tunnels that protrude above the surface. Moles typically live in wetter soils. Moles are insectivores feeding on earthworms, grubs, and other arthropods.

Moles are small mammals belonging to the shrew family. Moles are about 6-8 inches in length, with pointed snouts, large claws, eyes so small they look nonexistent.

Pocket gophers are herbivores that feed on roots. Pocket gophers live further under the soil sometimes almost six feet down! Since pocket gophers live further underground they need a place for all that dirt to go, leaving behind large dirt mounds throughout the property. Pocket gophers are typically solitary animals, but we have captured more than one on residential lots.

Pocket Gophers are smaller to medium sized rodents that have small eyes, ears, whiskers, and a pouch inside their mouth (Where the name Pocket Gopher comes from). A pocket gopher is roughly 10-12 inches in length.
